When employers ask for a senior therapist it has nothing to do with age but rather with degree of experience. A senior therapist will typically have a minimum of 3 year's experience, have achieved NVQ level 3 or equivalent and may be required to supervise other therapists and assist with training. [close]
Training is very much in vogue at the moment. Whilst not all companies require their trainers to have training qualifications we would advise you take the steps to acquire some. There isn't a beauty specific training qualification in particular. Teaching courses start with the 7303, known as PTTL's, a 10 week course which is an introductory to teaching. This is followed by the 7304, known as CTTL's, a 6 month course which require you to do 30 hours of teaching/observing in a placement (you need a mentor in this placement). Once you've completed these two courses you'll be considered for most training/sales jobs in the industry. If you want to go on and teach in a college you must do a further two year course known as DTTL's. [close]
To specialise as a skincare specialist you could choose spa therapy work which would be predominantly face and body treatments. To specialise in the face you could look at entering a medi spa environment where you can develop advanced skills such as microdermabrasion, skin peels and oxygen facials. Specialist clinics will often provide additional training to provide you with the necessary skills for that sector. [close]
Totally acceptable. A future employer will really only ever contact a previous employer once they've offered you the job and you've accepted. [close]
It is always advisable that your CV is accompanied by a cover letter. A cover letter is your way of introducing yourself to an employer by stating your interest and suitability in their company and your motivation for applying. A cover letter should be no longer than a single piece of A4, short and to the point! Every job advert on hairandbeautyjobs.com has a space for writing your cover note. [close]
