Have you tried getting an ITEC qualification?
It would give you a far better edge and encourage employers to take a second look at your application.
They have courses in pretty much everything so you should definately check them out. Everything they do is to a really high standard so you'll definately get the training you need.
Good luck!

I have completed 3 years at university in which I started my career doing a degree in international spa management the university had it's own fully operational open to the public spa this is where I did the majority of practical sessions and had to complete a total of 200 commercial sessions to sucessfully sign me off part of my course however since leaving uni I have these qualifications and yet still no1 will hire me sayin I do not have the experience whereas while I studied at uni the lecturers had always assured me that gettin a job once I finished would not b a problem. I'm upset to think tht my 3 years of not only practical but very much a managerial course aswell has been 4 nothin so I am currently self employed workin within a business which I'm hopin 1 day will help in the long run. 2 any1 else in the same position don't give up hope.

I understand your concern(s) because i'm in exactly the same position. Having done NVQ Level 2 Beauty Therapy, i was hoping to gain employment after - but obviously that wasn't the case! I'm not happy at all that employers can't even give people a chance and give them some training relevant for the job they want.

I also feel the government definately needs to do much more for adults who want to get back into work, and help single parents more.
There should also be more help for people who are willing to start their own business(es).

The problem is that schools are not teaching the correct level of treatment, without being rude I have interviewed 20 people for a position at my salon and wouldn't be able to put a client with any of them and expect them not to complain.

Also these girls seem to expect me to take the time to train them while paying them the same as a fully experienced therapist. I wouldn't mind if someone came and said I'll volunteer for a few weeks to get up to standard, but alot seem afraid of hard work. The beauty industry is long hours and hard work, you need to be a good therapist but you also need to listen to what the client is telling you and become their friend, it is no good telling someone about you children if they don't have any, or having a conversation about football do someone who likes rugby.

I have had to stop a girl waxing my legs because she was pulling in the wrong direction, correct a girls posture while massaging. While I have no problems training my staff I want someone with the confidence to take that training and use it.

I'm still looking for staff members who can fill the position.

Hello Ladies
My Name is Carly Breen, i have been a Beauty Therapy Lecturer for the past 12 years i also have 2 businesses.
There is alot of confusion with qualifications check HABIA website for more information. It can also depend on where you trained - some schools offer workshops to prepare learners to take on employment. I run private workshops to help prepare therapists for work i also help them to gain employment and work experience if you want more info contact me through my website ***.beaubelles.org
I can symperthise with Adel when we trade test alot of girls it is shocking how in experienced they are and i can understand the therapists - how do i get experience, if you are an employer or employee and want help please get in touch.

Well usually a cover letter means, where u saw the job advertised, highlight skills, and where u work now e.g. Dear ............ I saw you vacancy for beauty therapist and would very much like to be considered for role. Etc.... On the lines of this you should be writing. Hope this helped

How Can I Get The Experience I Need If No One Gives Me A Chance!! How Can Get Experience??

Its practically impossible to gain experience because everyone thats hiring is looking for "2-3 years experience" and i've only been qualified for a year. Also having ITEC ANDD NVQ level 3 beauty qualifications just doesnt seem to cut it anymore :( x
