I am currently considering completing a CIDESCO beauty course however the price of £8000 is putting me off. Is it really worth being CIDESCO trained rather than NVQ's?

I have a BTEC qualification and will also be graduating with a degree in September in Spa Management. I know it is costly but looking around for jobs CIDESCO is a higher and more recognised qualification around the world than an NVQ. I'm not saying that anything is wrong with an NVQ but i think if you have the option to do the CIDESCO then I would take it. Hope this helps x.x

What ever job you apply for will ask for references and a trade test... so just because you've done CIDESCO doesn't mean you will be better able to perform a treatment than a NVQ trained person .CIDESCO require a lot more theory .. Big state colleges like Birmingham (food domestic Art College) have a great beauty training centre

CIDESCO all the way,
while it doesn't mean that you will be able to do a treatment better!!
It means that you will get the training to be able to do the treatments, NVQ is not as good a level of training, it's important to remember that with CIDESCO you can work anywhere, it's no surprise that people are starting to lose faith with the NVQ system, it just doesn't work.

I agree that some state run F.E colleges have pressure to pass everyone on NVQ courses. (Thats what OFSTED reports do to schools.F.E )I know I had some students that completed the course, but I would never have hired them . ITEC / Cidesco in a private college are more likely to offer better training without the politics

can I just add to this chat that the standards have changed for qualifications. You can now only do an NVQ if you are in an apprentiship role. The new qualification is called a VRQ & this may impact job availability in years to come. This is the 1st year that we are fully delivering these changes, so the long term implications have yet to be seen.
I did a C.I.D.E.S.C.O qualification, but that wasn't really by choice- that was what was on offer at the college I wanted to go to in Ireland.
I am now a lecturer in the UK. If you can do the C.I.D.E.S.C.O qual then I would, just because of the change in standards & qualifications with the NVQ.
Hope this helps.
