Hi Everyone,
I would be very grateful if anyone could give me some advice please.
For the past year myself and my mum have been trying to start up a little salon from home (one room which we've converted into a treatment room.) I'm qualified in Beauty NVQ Level 2 and just started my NVQ Level 3 Reflexology, Body Massage and Aromatherapy course. I'm enjoying the course but don't feel as motivated because of not having a job, as I want to be busy but I'm not at all.
We have advertised in local magazines, put posters up and dropped leaflets round and we've virtually had no response at all. We've even knocked 10% off first treatments to try and get some interest! The nearest salons are about 10-15 minutes away from where we live, so I thought people would have been more interested to be honest. I'm feeling really down hearted, disappointed and quite depressed because I've worked so, so hard and have had nothing back from it. All I want to do is work for myself as I've got my own standards and it would be so much easier and more convenient.
I was working at a salon but was treated very poorly and left before my 3 months trial was up. I was very upset because I thought I was going to be for a long time, and when I got the opportunity to work there I just took it with both hands. So that was a real kick in the teeth. Anyway...
I know that all salons are struggling what with the credit crunch and there are no positions anywhere around where I live (and there are about 30 salons). I'm going to write another letter to them so they know I'm looking for a job, and also post flyers out again, but what do I do if nothing comes of it? I don't really want to end up in a shop or somewhere like that as I love Beauty, but may have no option. Sorry is I sound sorry for myself, it's just so annoying when you've put your heart and soul into something.
Please help! I could really do with some advice.
