If you read our guide to better on-line job hunting you'll increase your chances significantly of landing that dream job
Don't ignore older jobsA lot of jobseekers only look at jobs posted in the last couple of days. This is a huge mistake. Don't assume that because a job was posted 3 weeks ago the employer has filled the post. Frequently when an employer has filled their post they will remove the advert. So if it's still up, chances are they're still hopeful to receive good candidates.
Read the DetailBe careful to read a job advert carefully before you make the decision to apply. You'll save yourself a lot of time by not applying to jobs that are unsuitable.
In particular pay attention to where the job is located. Frequently candidates apply to jobs without checking the location and find they've applied for jobs that are impractical for travel. if you're prepared to re-locate say so on your application so the employer doesn't think you've lost the plot!
Tailor your applicationA lot of jobseekers carry out a blanket bombing approach to job seeking, blasting off their CV and application letter to as many jobs as possible. This is great and your chances of getting a job do rise with the effort you put in. But be careful to tailor your efforts. Employer's are looking for a particular set of skills to fill their vacancy and will be mentally trying to match your skills and experience to the requirements of the job. So make sure you try and tailor your application.
Watch your spelling! When you apply for a job on-line watch your spelling! You would not believe the silly errors that creep into on-line application notes to employers. You may be a dab hand at quick typing but check what you've written before you press submit. Don't let it cost you an interview!
Be Professional!Don't be too casual when making an on-line application to an employer. It's better to err on the formal side than start your application with 'Hiya' or Hi there' |
