Champneys – Town and City Spas

Champneys are leaders in the UK health and wellbeing market, but it’s not simply about our luxury destination spas and products; the people that work under the Champneys umbrella raise awareness and provide new ways to improve and maintain consumer health and beauty. The most important thing to a customer is a brand being true to its promise, to which Champneys takes pride in doing.

Mrs Purdew and her son Stephen are the co-owners of Champneys. Mrs Purdew started in the health and beauty industry in 1970 when she set up her own slimming club business. In September 1981 the family purchased Henlow Grange, a time when the face of health farms began to change.

In 1990 they purchased Springs Health Farm in Leicestershire and invested £10 million, making it one of the most advanced health farms in the country. As their success continued they expanded the company once again, purchasing Forest Mere in 1995, which after a £14 million refurbishment, won Spa of the Year two years running. The stunning Hotel de la Paix in Champery, Switzerland was purchased in 1996. To complete their resort spa portfolio, the Purdews acquired Champneys Tring, which with the Champneys name, led to the re-branding of all the resorts.

Champneys Spa Collection launched in 2004 and has become extremely successful. The products have won many awards including Cosmopolitan Best Beauty Product, Woman and Home Best Body Scrub and Slimming Magazine’s Most Innovative Product Range. Champneys aim is to make exceptionally high quality beauty products available to everyone at affordable prices. The range is constantly being developed and expanded and with each new product range a new treatment is launched.

Champneys Health Resorts Group offer four award-winning luxury spa resorts and has become one of the largest destination spa operators in the world. Stephen and Dorothy continue to head up the group, making them the country’s most successful family business in the spa industry.

In December 2006 Stephen and his mother celebrated 25 years at Henlow Grange, 80 years of Champneys tradition and their first town and city spa opening in Chichester. Champneys have now opened seven town and city spas with expansion planned by the end of the year.

My role was to set the highest possible standards as an example to the other therapists working with me, and to help lead our team to success.
