A Revolution in Daylight Protection

Do you wear sunscreen everyday? Not just a last minute buy for your summer holidays or the odd heatwave, wearing sun protection should be a part of everyone's daily skin regime. It is vital that your clients understand that daylight exposure at any time of the year is just as damaging to the skin as the hot summer rays. Skin is still being exposed to UVA and UVB rays and therefore enhancing the likelihood of premature ageing and skin cancer.

So why do they ditch the sunscreen?

The most common complaint about wearing sun protection is the consistency chalky, pasty, white, thick, greasy and downright unpleasant products. Not something we want to be using in the summer - let alone on a daily basis! Clients want a product that not only protects them from ultraviolet rays, but feels good and actually helps treat and improve the condition of their skin all year round.

...Enter Dermalogica's new and improved Daylight Defense System!

Dermalogica launches the world's most intelligent sun-care line with a customer-friendly twist: all five products are formulated with a particular skin condition in mind, and all but one of the new products contains UV SmartBooster, Dermalogica's innovative microcapsule technology which releases active vitamins upon contact with UV rays for maximum protection against free radicals.

UV SmartBooster responds to light, mirroring the activity of melanin in the skin itself. When the skin is exposed to sun, melanocytes trigger the release of pigment to protect the epidermis (the result is a sunburn or tan). Likewise, the UV SmartBooster is photosensitive, or activated by light.

This customized marine DNA microcapsule protects its contents, active antioxidants Vitamins C and E, from the environment, thus ensuring 100% activity until the moment they are delivered to the skin. The microcapsule contains an active ingredient complex that is triggered to release the antioxidants when exposed to light. The vitamins boost and prolong the photoprotective capacity of the sunblock on the skin.

While other brands offer broad-spectrum sunscreen protection, Dermalogica's updated Daylight Defense System contains products formulated specifically for the needs of blemish-prone, prematurely ageing, chronically dry and sensitised skin. "The one-size-fits-all approach doesn't work in any aspect of skin care formulation," says Dermalogica founder Jane Wurwand, "yet many manufacturers treat sun protection products as though one formulation will be suitable for every skin. We are dedicated to the idea of highly personalised, prescriptive products in every aspect of skin care, including sun protection."

Wurwand also points out that the synthetic tropical aromas commonly associated with sun care products, such as coconut and pina colada, are absent: as with all Dermalogica products, the new Daylight Defense System is free of artificial colours and fragrances, which are known irritants.

The new products offer this specialised protection as follows:
