A Truly Affordable Spa
The £3 million redevelopment of Pendle Leisure Trust's, Pendle Wavelengths in Nelson, East Lancashire will officially open on Friday 29 June 2007. The centre will be a true leisure first for the UK and an inspiration for leisure providers across the world, thanks to its unique focus on health, fitness and well-being.
The redevelopment of the existing leisure pool facility was carried out with strategic partners Alliance Spa, Alliance Leisure's spa partnership arm, which project managed and part-funded the unique venture that sees the addition of a holistic wellness centre, providing fitness facilities for both adults and juniors, as well as a spa environment that focuses on inner well-being and stress relief.
The extension to Pendle Wavelengths will offer a value-for-money, family experience, currently only available in exclusive, high-expense private sector complexes, to the masses.
Pendle Leisure Trust's Chief Executive, Phil Storey said: "We are delighted to launch this innovative approach to health and well-being. We know that stress is a major health concern and as such want to compliment our already extensive range of sport and fitness facilities with an experience that enables our local community to relax and focus on their inner well-being. Our prices will be much more competitive than standard private spas, meaning the facilities will be accessible to everyone."
The new-look Pendle Wavelengths centre, conveniently located a mile from the M65 motorway, will create 18 new jobs locally and will boast:
A complete spa experience incorporating:
- Hydrotherapy pool
- Salt inhalation steam room
- Aromatherapy room
- Foot spas
- Rasul mud bath
- Dry flotation bed
- Ice fountain
- Monsoon showers
- Four dedicated treatment rooms offering a range of therapeutic and revitalising treatments for the whole body
Alliance Spa's renowed spa guru Berni Hawkins worked with architects Pozzoni, the building company Dean and Bowes and spa equipment experts Dalesauna, which installed more than £250,000 worth of products, to create the same high levels of spa interior you would expect to find in an exclusive 5* spa retreat. Dalesauna's interior designer, Lynn Russell-Hanson, has been heavily involved in the spa's look and has created a real 'wow' factor through a clever combination of materials and colours. However, whilst Inside Spa will boast everything you expect to find in a top end spa, it will be priced to ensure accessibility for everyone, with an estimated cost of only £10 for a full two-hour spa experience.
Gerard McCarthy, Sales Director of Dalesauna said: "We have supplied an extensive array of the latest equipment and experiences, which have been further enhanced by a very high standard of finish, putting Pendle Wavelengths on a par with any private sector facility. As the first local authority trust to offer a spa of this scale and quality, the team at Pendle has thoroughly researched the area, taken advice on the direction of the market and is totally committed to providing the very best facilities for its users."
Berni Hawkins said: "Spa is in its infancy, just as the fitness market was 10 years ago. This has lead many local authorities to see spas as something that's glamorous and expensive, that's not for their client base, but this doesn't have to be the case, and we hope that the launch of this first public sector spa will convince local authorities and trusts that offering high quality relaxation and treatment facilities is the natural next step."
Pendle Leisure Trust has also entered into a five-year partnership with Alliance Spa to support the development with spa specific consultancy, including negotiations with strategic partners to provide the best brand proposition and support structure from product houses, structuring and development of the treatment and package menu, design of a bespoke sales process for all spa treatments and services, pre-sale set up including sales and marketing and the recruitment and training of spa staff.
Alliance Spa mirrors the company's fitness partnership programme and works on a performance related income share basis so that, from completion, Alliance Spa bears all the costs up front with the Trust only paying commission when membership payments exceed an agreed threshold. Managing Director Sarah Watts said: "Currently 70% of common ailments are stress related and many of these could be treatable in the spa. This creates a massive opportunity to work with local PCT's on GP referral and we are delighted that Pendle Leisure Trust shares our vision for the future of the health and fitness industry."
Pendle Leisure Trust fitness members will also receive a 20% discounted entry into the spa experience, ensuring maximum value for money and loyalty to its existing customers. Full details of the spa experience and treatments are available on http://www.insidespa.co.uk/video.asp.

The original Pendle Wavelengths leisure pool

Families have been travelling from all over Lancashire and West Yorkshire to spend the day at the pool since it originally opened in 1987.
The perfect complementary therapy to every spa experience is undoubtedly a deliciously refreshing drink. Whether you are looking for a quality cup of coffee, a freshly squeezed orange juice or a tasty, iced fruit smoothy, the Juice Bar at Inside Spa will be perfect environment to relax, chat and chill out.
The redevelopment at Pendle Wavelength's was supported by an independent survey by Leisure-net Solutions to identify the type of facilities the surrounding community would like to see on offer at its local leisure centre. The street-FocusTM survey concluded that 'if this new complex provided facilities for the whole family to both be active and to relax, with appropriate childcare facilities, and was all provided at an affordable cost, it would encourage them to be more active and make more time to relax.'
On induction, Pendle Wavelengths members will be introduced to the fitness and leisure facilities and spa at the same time to ensure they maximise the benefits of both exercise and relaxation.
