New look Mary Reid Spa Academy Opens its Doors

The new name reflects Mary Reid's long term strategy to become the UK's leading supplier to a rapidly evolving, global Spa Industry. To this end, the Academy is introducing a new syllabus that will deliver a more complete skill set for the modern Spa Professional. The Academy's prestigious new location is also a signal of intent, reflecting Mary Reid's ambitions for growth and development in the future.

The driving force behind this period of change is Brian Hunter, the recently appointed new Principal and owner of Mary Reid, and former General Manager of 'One Spa', the world class Spa which he opened and operated for 5 years at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Edinburgh. With the Spa sector growing at an unprecedented rate, Brian has recognised an opportunity for Mary Reid to supply top Spa Professionals to an industry with an impending skills gap.

Brian Hunter comments:

'Moving premises gives us the opportunity to re-focus the Academy, with a curriculum that will prepare our students for working in all areas of the Spa and Salon industry, from entry level right up to Spa Management and Operations. This change of emphasis for Mary Reid will not only be advantageous for the industry, but also the students who will be better prepared for the opportunities ahead.'

With the Spa industry in mind, Brian has introduced a greater focus on Spa therapy and management courses in the curriculum. His goal is to provide the sector with expertly trained students, with well rounded skills and abilities not just in therapy, but across every aspect of Spa operations and management. Spa Therapy courses will be introduced to accommodate new business management modules, including financials, IT and business development.

Despite this period of change, the new Spa Academy will continue to build upon the proud heritage of the Mary Reid name, with over 55 years experience training and developing Spa and beauty professionals. The Academy remains the only one of its kind in Scotland to offer Full and Part Time ITEC and CIDESCO courses, providing its students with world class qualifications for the Spa and Salon industry.

The new Academy will continue to offer six month to one year full time undergraduate courses, and two year part time courses for those undergoing a career change and are still working, as well as shorter Postgraduate courses for qualified Spa and Beauty Therapists. There are also additional day and weekly courses for students with no prior qualifications.

The Academy will also be one of Scotland's central training hubs for leading Skin Care Product Houses, and one of the first Spa Academy's in Scotland to introduce the new Hot Lava Shell Course by Shared Beauty Secrets, an exciting new massage treatment using exotic Tiger Clam Shells from the Philippines. Finally, Spa speakers and industry experts will be regularly invited to instruct and inform Mary Reid's Spa apprentices.
