Niki Hill, Business Development Manager for Dermalogica

Q. What attracted you to working in sales?

I wanted to challenge myself and further my career. I had managed a dermalogica account, and loved the product and believed in the dermalogica concept wholeheartedly. I wanted a piece of the action and to be a part of it, and I had retail experience so thought this was my calling.

Q. Why did you choose to work for Dermalogica?

Dermalogica is the only skin care company that I truly believe in. If the product says it will do something it will, which makes it very easy to be passionate about a company and product. All staff no matter what their role are treated with respect and as an individual.

Q. What are your main responsibilities?

I visit accounts on an 8 week cycle. I dedicate my time and support to offer them all the tools to create and grow a successful business by increasing their sales, and in turn improve my own territory.

Q. What qualities are needed in a sales rep?

Passion, drive, ambition, knowledge of the products, belief in the product, and personal experience of managing or owning a skin care business. You also need a thorough understanding of all aspects of the skin care business and the retail industry, merchandising and commerciality.

Q. What are the best bits about your job?

Sharing the dermalogica passion, success and seeing businesses grow and knowing I have made a difference. Bonuses and product allocation are also a plus!

Q. What are the downsides of your job?

Sometimes getting stuck in traffic.

Q. What are the biggest challenges you face?

Clients who don't believe in the product because they are just investing in our industry and don't really understand how it works.

Q. What have you personally gained from working at Dermalogica?

I've regained confidence and passion in an industry I love. I've also increased my knowledge of sales, and changing retail and consumer trends.

Q. What advice would you give to someone wanting to become a sales rep?

You need hard work, determination, passion in your soul, and fire in your belly!
